Dodgers to remove Craig Kimbrel from the closer role
Craig Kimbrel will no longer serve as the Dodgers’ closer, manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday.
Asked whether the decision will apply to the postseason as well, Roberts said: “I don’t know. I think that’s where we’re at right now. Nothing is cemented but we think that’s the best way to go about it right now.”
Kimbrel has struggled as of late, posting a 4.14 ERA with five blown saves through 54.1 innings of work this season. On Thursday against the Diamondbacks, Kimbrel gave up a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth inning before the Dodgers rallied in the bottom frame for a 3-2 win.
